The Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM) has selected the North Carolina CTS Floodplain Mapping Program to receive the Tom Lee State Award for Excellence-Platinum Level. The Tom Lee Award is given annually to recognize an outstanding floodplain management program or activity at the state level. It preserves the memory of Tom Lee (1935-1976), a visionary floodplain manager responsible for some of this country's finest state-level programs and for his instrumental work in developing the regulatory framework, which floodplain managers still seek to implement and improve today.

The award was presented to the State on June 7 in Charlotte, North Carolina, during the annual ASFPM conference. Since 1984, ASFPM has recognized many individuals and organizations for excellence in floodplain management and service to the ASFPM.
